Hey, Carpool Crew! Happy Sunday, and welcome to day six of Proverbs for Your School Life. Today we're talking about that moment when you promised your little brother a game of catch after church, and then your phone buzzes with something way more fun. I'm Pastor Justin, and before we jump in, let me give a big shout-out to Anna Beth out in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Anna Beth, I'm glad you're in the Sunday carpool. And this episode is all about keeping your word when a better offer shows up. We've all felt that pull. Let's jump in with the one thing I want you to remember for the ride: be the kid who shows up. Listen to this from Proverbs 3:3. "Never let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Tie them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart." Solomon says wear it. Like a necklace you never take off. Not the picture-day kind you stuff in a drawer on Monday. The kind that's just part of you, everywhere you go. In Solomon's day, people really did wear their most important thing around their neck. A family seal on a cord. When they pressed it into wax, everybody knew exactly whose word that was. Your word can work like that. People see it and know what it's worth. Anybody keeps a promise when nothing better comes along. The kid worth trusting keeps it when something better does. If Jesus were sitting next to you on the ride home from church, He would say, "I have never broken a promise, and I'm keeping a few to you right now. Go throw that ball with your brother. That's what My kind of love looks like on a Sunday afternoon." It's Sunday after lunch. The glove is already out on the porch, because your little brother is sure you meant it. Then the phone buzzes. The neighbors are setting up a giant water balloon battle, starting now. You stand in the kitchen holding the phone, feeling the pull. And then you text back, "Can't yet. I told my brother we'd play catch. Maybe after." Twenty minutes of catch. That's all it takes. And at dinner, your brother tells the whole table about one diving grab like it made the news. So today, here's the one thing you could try. Keep one promise you'd normally let slide. The catch you said you'd play. The chore you said you'd finish. The game you said you'd teach your sister. When the better offer shows up, borrow these words: "I said I would, so I'm in." Anybody can make a promise. Wearing it like that necklace, that's what people can count on. Hey, let's go back to that one thing I wanted you to remember for the ride. Be the kid who shows up. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
