Hello, friends, and welcome back to Carpooling with Jesus. I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so excited you're here today because we have an incredible story to share. Let me ask you this question. Have you ever felt like people don't notice how awesome you are? You're probably shaking your head thinking, oh yeah, all the time. Or maybe people think you're too small to do something important. Well, today's story is about a boy who might have felt the exact same way. His name was David, the shepherd boy who became king. I want to take a moment and think about today's Bible verse. It comes to us from First Samuel chapter 16, verse seven. Samuel was a prophet of God, which means he helped communicate God's message to people here on earth. And First Samuel is in the Old Testament. So in chapter 16, verse seven, it says man does not see what the Lord sees. For man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart. Isn't that amazing? You also might be thinking, what does that mean? It means while people might focus on how we look or how strong we are, God focuses on what's on the inside: our hearts. We have to take a trip back in time to a little village in Israel. David, the youngest of eight brothers, spent most of his time in the fields taking care of sheep. It wasn't a fancy job. It could be lonely sometimes, very quiet, maybe even dangerous. But David took his job seriously, keeping the sheep safe, feeding them, and protecting them from wild animals. God had told the prophet Samuel to visit David's family to anoint the next king of Israel. Imagine Samuel arriving at the house and seeing David's older brothers. They were tall, strong, looked like they could have led an army. Samuel thought for sure one of them would be God's choice for king. But God had a surprise in store. God told Samuel, don't look at their height or their strength. I've chosen someone else. One by one, David's brothers passed by Samuel, and each time God said, no, not this one. Finally Samuel asked David's father, Jesse, are these all your sons? Jesse answered, well, there's still the youngest. He's out there in the fields with the sheep. So they sent for David. And when he came in, God told Samuel, this is the one, anoint him. Imagine being David in that moment, a young boy chosen by God for something so big. But here's the thing. David didn't become king right away. He went back to his sheep, faithfully doing his job and trusting God's plan. God was preparing him even when others couldn't see it yet. Wow. What a story. David could have felt unimportant as the youngest brother, or thought, I'm just a shepherd, what could God do with me? But David didn't let those thoughts stop him. He trusted God and did his best in the small things, like taking care of sheep. And God used those moments to prepare him for something incredible: becoming the king of Israel. What about you? Have you ever felt like no one notices you or what you're good at? Maybe you're younger or smaller than others, or people don't see all the amazing things you can do. Listen to me, friends. Just like David, God sees your heart. He sees your kindness, your courage, and the love inside of you. And he has a special plan for your life, even if you don't know it yet. David's story reminds us that God doesn't need us to be the biggest or the strongest or the most impressive person in the room. He just needs us to trust him and be willing to follow his plan. God has something special in store for you. Yes, you. Keep doing your best, no matter how small the task, and know that God sees your heart and is preparing you for great things. Let's wrap up today with our short Friday prayer. God, thank you for this week. Help us finish strong today and bless our weekend with joy and rest. Amen. Remember, no matter where you are or how you listen, God loves you. Parents, this weekend, share this podcast with a friend of yours so they can turn their car rides into faith-filled moments too. Here's today's question. Talk about it together before you get out of the car. How do you think David felt when he was chosen to be king? Have an incredible weekend. God loves you.
