Hey, Carpool Crew! Happy Sunday, day thirteen of Proverbs for Your School Life. And today is a special one, because today is Grandparents Day. We're talking about that little buzz your grandma gets when your name shows up on her phone... and what Solomon says you actually are to her. I'm Pastor Justin, and before we jump in, let me give a big shout-out to Wylder out in Notasulga, Alabama. Wylder, glad you're in the Sunday carpool. And this episode is all about grandmas, grandpas, and the kids they cannot stop bragging about. We've all caught them doing it. Let's jump in with the one thing I want you to remember for the ride: you're their crown, so go call them. Listen to this from Proverbs 17:6. "Grandchildren are the crown of the elderly, and the pride of children is their fathers." Did you catch that? A crown. Gold, jewels, the thing everybody in the room noticed first, and the one thing a king would never hand over. Not a nice bonus. The crown. If you have ever watched your grandma stop a stranger in the grocery store line to show them your school picture, you have seen this verse happen in real life. You spend a lot of days feeling ordinary. Homework kid. Chore kid. Middle-of-the-lineup kid. And the whole time, there are people who count you as their crown, just because you are you. In one of Jesus's most famous stories, a dad spots his son way off down the road and takes off running. That is how Jesus described His own Father. So if Jesus were sitting next to you at Sunday lunch, He would say, "You know how your grandpa's whole face changes when you walk in the room? That is a little picture of how My Father lights up over you. Go make that phone call." It is Grandparents Day afternoon. Your grandma lives two states away, and the phone is sitting right there on the counter. You ask your mom to help you dial, and Grandma picks up on the second ring, because she always picks up fast when it is your house calling. You say it: "Hi Grandma. Happy Grandparents Day. I love you." Eight words. And you can hear it in her voice, the sound of somebody straightening their crown. So today, here's the one thing you could try. Call your grandparents, or hug them in person if they are close. Ask a parent for the number if you need it. Borrow the line word for word: "Happy Grandparents Day. I love you." And if calling isn't possible today, find a grandma or grandpa at church or on your street and hand them the happy anyway. Somebody near you would love to be crowned today. Hey, let's go back to that one thing I wanted you to remember for the ride. You're their crown, so go call them. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
