Help With a Good Attitude: When the Job Is Boring

Hey, Carpool Crew! I'm Pastor Justin, and whether you're on the way to school, finishing breakfast, or getting started with homeschool, I'm really glad you're here today. Alright, here's your One Thing for the ride: your attitude matters when you help. Our verse today comes from Philippians 2:14. It says: 'Do everything without grumbling and arguing.' Okay, let's be honest for a second. That's not always easy. If Jesus were sitting next to you right now, I think he'd say something like this: 'My friend, helping is good, but helping with the right attitude is even better. Don't just do the right thing. Do it with a joyful heart.' Now think about this. Have you ever been asked to do something like clean your room, help your sibling, take out the trash, and maybe you did it, but you also said, 'Ughhh, why do I have to do this?' 'This isn't fair!' 'Why can't they do it?' Yeah, we've all been there. Let me give you a quick example. Two kids are asked to help set the table. One says, 'Okay!' and jumps in. The other says, 'Fine...' and stomps over, slamming plates around. Both helped. But it felt very different, didn't it? That's what this verse is getting at. God doesn't just care that we help. He cares HOW we help. When we complain, it spreads frustration. When we help with joy, it spreads peace. So here's what this looks like for you today: first, help gladly. Don't wait to be asked five times. Second, avoid complaining. Catch yourself before the whining starts. Third, choose joy. Even if you don't feel like it right away. Let's come back to your One Thing: your attitude matters when you help. No matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
