Jesus Calms the Storm: He's Bigger Than the Storms Inside You
A 5-minute kids devotional on Mark 4 and the storm Jesus calmed. Helps kids name the noisy feelings inside them and gives three small ways to hand them over to Jesus.
For Parents
Your kid is carrying louder feelings than they let on. The nerves before a test, the frustration after a rough day, the worry that doesn't turn off at bedtime. This episode walks them through Mark 4 when Jesus calmed a real storm, and gives them three small things they can try when the inside-noise gets loud. At bedtime tonight, ask them what their loud thing is.
The One Thing for the Ride
“Jesus is bigger than the storms inside you.”
Scripture
Mark 4:39
CSB
Key Takeaways
- The storms inside are real. Worry, frustration, sadness, and nerves are loud, but Jesus has authority over them too.
- Jesus didn't panic with the disciples or grab a bucket. He spoke with calm authority. Kids can borrow that posture.
- Naming a feeling out loud to someone you trust makes it smaller.
- Three breaths and three words ("Jesus, be still") is a tool kids can use right now, today.
- Bedtime is the natural moment to hand the loud thing to Jesus in a one-sentence prayer.
Try This Week
- Take three slow breaths and say, "Jesus, be still."
- Tell one person what's going on. A parent, a sibling, a coach, a teacher.
- Before bed, hand the loud thing to Jesus in a one-sentence prayer.

Questions Kids Ask
How did Jesus calm the storm on the sea?
When a huge storm was filling the boat with water and the disciples were scared, Jesus stood up and simply said, Silence, be still, and the wind and waves went flat and quiet (Mark 4:39). He is that powerful over real storms and over the loud storms inside you too, like worry, nervousness, or that sad feeling when a friend leaves you out. You can hand those feelings to Him, because He is bigger than all of them.
