Hey, carpool crew. Happy Monday. I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so glad you're here today as we continue our Advent journey together toward Christmas. Mondays can feel a little tough sometimes. Am I right? You're shaking off the weekend, you're getting back into routine, maybe wishing you had just a few more minutes of sleep. I get it. But Advent reminds us that even on Monday, God is doing something good, and today we're talking about something every one of us needs as we start a new week. Joy. Not the quick kind that disappears, but the kind that stays with you because it comes from Jesus. Today we're looking at John chapter 15, verse 11. I told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. This moment in the Bible takes place in the upper room, one of Jesus's final long conversations with his disciples before going to the cross. Now, he wasn't teaching crowds here, he wasn't performing miracles. He was sitting with his closest friends. Imagine sitting with your friends at a lunch table, and he's sharing what mattered most with them. Jesus talked about staying connected to him, loving one another, and trusting him through anything that comes up next. And then he told them why he was saying all this, so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. So just think about that. Jesus wasn't telling them to go find joy or try hard to be joyful. He's saying, my joy, I'm giving that to you. It's like a gift that he's giving. This is the kind of joy that doesn't depend on how your weekend went, how early your alarm clock went off. It doesn't depend on what's happening at school or how people treat you. This is steady joy, joy that comes from Jesus. If Jesus were sitting with you this Monday morning, maybe at the table or in the car on the way to school, he might say, my joy is stronger than your worries. My joy doesn't disappear when your day gets hard. My joy lives in you. He'd remind you that he didn't come just to fix problems. He came to fill hearts, even yours, even today, even on Monday. See, Mondays can feel heavy. Maybe you're tired, or maybe school just feels stressful. Maybe you just wish the weekend lasted a little longer. But the joy Jesus brings is not fragile. It doesn't break because you're having a rough morning. His joy can show up in real life ways, even today. When you laugh with someone in the hallway, when you choose to encourage a friend, when you remember you're not alone in a hard moment, when you take a deep breath and know Jesus is with you, when something small reminds you, God is good. Sometimes joy can come quickly. Sometimes it shows up in big moments, but it is always there for you because joy comes from Jesus, and Jesus is always close to you. So as you head into school today or get ready to start homeschool, here's a couple things you can do to live out this joy. First, ask Jesus for his joy. That's a great prayer. Jesus, help me have more of your joy in my heart today. Second, look for joy on purpose. Notice one good thing or two good things, one moment that you're thankful for, one thing that makes you laugh and smile with your friends. Lastly, remember who brings joy. It's not the weekends, it's not perfect days, if those existed. It's not everything going your way. It's Jesus who brings joy, and he brings it to you and he brings it to me, and he wants to give it willingly. So Jesus wants his joy, his real, lasting, steady joy, to be living in you. And because of that, Monday can be more than just the start of a school week. It can be the start of a joyful week. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. Now, before you go, let's answer this question together. Where have you seen Jesus' joy show up in your life lately? I'll see you tomorrow on carpooling with Jesus.
