The Joy of Growing Up: Why You Don't Have to Rush

Hey, Carpool Crew! I'm Pastor Justin, and whether you're on the way to school, finishing breakfast, or just hanging out, I'm really glad you're here today. Alright, here's your One Thing for the ride: growing up is a gift. Don't rush it. Our verse today comes from Luke 2:52. It says: 'And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people.' Now think about that. Even Jesus grew up. He didn't skip childhood. He didn't rush ahead. He learned. He grew. He took it one step at a time. If Jesus were sitting next to you right now, I think he'd say: 'My friend, you don't have to hurry. Growing takes time, and every stage of your life matters.' Let me tell you a story. One day, I was watching old home videos with my family. There was a clip of one of my kids when they were really little. Like, tiny voice, messy hair, running around laughing at everything. We all started laughing watching it. But then something hit me. That moment is gone. It was amazing, but it didn't last. And then I thought about something else. Right now, the age they are today, these moments, one day, those will be memories too. Here's the truth. When you're a kid, it's easy to think: 'I can't wait to be older.' 'I can't wait to do more.' 'I can't wait until I'm allowed to...' But every stage has something special about it. Let's make this real. Right now, you get to laugh easily, play freely, learn new things every day, be surrounded by people helping you grow. That's a gift. Here's another quick story. A boy named Caleb couldn't wait to grow up. He always said, 'I wish I was older so I could do whatever I want.' But one day, his older brother said something interesting. He said, 'Yeah, but when you get older, you don't get to be a kid anymore.' That stuck with Caleb. And slowly, he started noticing things differently. Playing outside with friends. Family dinners. Laughing over silly stuff. He realized this stage mattered. Growing up is good. It means you're learning. It means you're becoming who God made you to be. But you don't need to rush it. So here's what this looks like today: first, enjoy where you are. Don't always wish for the next stage. Second, keep growing. Learn, listen, and take steps forward. Third, thank God for today. Not just what's coming later. Let's go back to your One Thing: growing up is a gift. Don't rush it. No matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
