Scared of Losing Someone You Love? What Jesus Would Say

Hey, carpool crew. I'm Pastor Justin, and I want to talk about something really hard today, but also really important. What if someone I love dies? This month we are talking about what Jesus would say about the things that scare us, and yeah, that's a big one. That's a big, scary thought. Maybe it popped into your head at night when everything was quiet. Maybe it hit you after a grandparent passed away, or you heard about someone losing someone they loved. Maybe it's just something that makes your stomach hurt whenever you think about it. If you've ever felt scared about losing someone you love, you are not alone. Jesus knows exactly how that feels, and more than that, he has something really helpful and real to say to you today. It's in John 14, starting with verse 2. "In my Father's house are many rooms. I'm going away to prepare a place for you. I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also." This isn't just about being afraid of death. It's about the fear of being left behind, of not getting to say goodbye, of life changing in a way that feels too big to handle. You might not even say it out loud, but deep down you might think, what if I wake up one day and someone I love is gone? That's a really heavy thought. As much as I wish I could say that will never happen, the truth is we live in a world where people do die. Everyone does, one day. But Jesus didn't leave us without hope. In John 14, Jesus is talking to his closest friends. He tells them something really hard. I'm going to die soon. They were really confused and scared. So if you're ever scared about that, you're not alone. They didn't understand how he could leave them, but Jesus looks them in the eye and says something incredibly comforting. I'm going to prepare a place for you, and one day I'll come back for you so you can be where I am. He wasn't trying to scare them, and he doesn't want to scare you. He was giving them hope. He wanted them to know that even when death happens, it's not the end. If Jesus were riding with you in the car and you asked, what if someone I love dies? I think he'd gently say, that's a real fear, I understand it. I've lost people too. But I want you to know this, that death isn't the end of the story for those who believe in me. I've made a place in heaven for everyone who loves me, and when someone who knows me dies, they go to that place with me. So here's what you can do if you've ever felt scared about losing someone you love. First, tell Jesus about it. He's not afraid to hear your fears. He already knows what you're scared of, and he cares deeply. Remember, heaven is real. Jesus is there and he's waiting for all of us. It's not just a story. Jesus really is preparing a place for his people, and it's good. Also, focus on today. Don't spend your time worrying about something that hasn't happened. Instead, enjoy every moment you have with the people you love right now. And this is a great thing to talk to your parents about. If you're scared of this, let them comfort you, let them encourage you, let them remind you to enjoy every day you have with them. One day, when we're very old, we will all leave this life. And if we know Jesus, we will never be apart forever. That's his promise. He goes to prepare a place for us. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
