Thankful Even When It's Hard

It’s simple to thank God when everything’s going great, but what about the days when things fall apart, people are unkind, or plans don’t go the way you hoped?

For Parents

Every kid hits days that just don't go their way, a bad test, a hurt friendship, a heavy mood. This episode meets your child there with 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and the story of Paul and Silas singing in prison, showing that we can be thankful in hard times without pretending they aren't hard. Tonight, ask your child to name one small thing they can still thank God for, even on a tough day. Gratitude that starts small is still real gratitude.

The One Thing for the Ride

Being thankful doesn't mean pretending everything is fine, it means trusting that God is still good and still with you even when life is hard.

Questions Kids Ask

How can you be thankful when life is hard?

Being thankful does not mean pretending everything is fine, it means trusting that God is still good and still with you even when life is hard. When Paul and Silas were locked in prison for sharing about Jesus, they sang and praised God instead of complaining, and God shook the doors open (1 Thessalonians 5:18). You do not have to be thankful for the hard thing, but you can be thankful in it, even for one small thing like a warm bed.
