Thankful for Adventures

Hey, carpool crew. Every trip is a chance to see God's goodness in new places and with new people. I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so glad you're here today. Let me ask you something. What's your favorite kind of adventure? Maybe it's a road trip with your family, driving for hours, eating snacks in the car and playing I spy. Or maybe it's a vacation to a new place, somewhere with a beach, a mountain, or even just a new park you've never explored. No matter what kind of adventure it is, today we're talking about being thankful for adventures God gives us. The trips, the memories, and the moments that remind us how big and beautiful his world really is. Here's what it says in Psalm 121, verse eight. The Lord will protect your coming and going both now and forever. That verse comes from one of the songs of ascent, a group of Psalms that God's people used to sing while traveling. That's right. People in the Bible took trips too. Every year, Jewish families would journey to Jerusalem to worship God at the temple. They'd walk long distances, sometimes for days, through hills, valleys and winding roads. They sang these songs as reminders that God went with them every step of the way. So when Psalm 121 says, the Lord will protect your coming and going, it's a traveler's prayer, a promise that wherever you go, God goes too. If Jesus were traveling along with you on one of those adventures, sitting between the suitcases with a snack bag in his hand, I think he'd say, you know, I went on a lot of trips too. When I was a kid, I walked from town to town. I met new people, shared meals, and saw God's goodness everywhere I went, and I was thankful for it. Every road trip you travel, every sunrise you see, it reminds you that my father made this world for you to enjoy. Be thankful for it. Think about your last family road trip. Maybe you packed up the car, got comfy in your seat, started driving. At first it was exciting, but then the road got really long. Maybe your brother or sister started asking, are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? And you're wondering, how much more can I take? Even those little moments, there's something to be thankful for. The laughter, the songs, the memories you'll have later that you'll talk about and laugh about. And sometimes the best parts of an adventure aren't what you planned. They're the funny surprises along the way, like taking a wrong turn and discovering the best ice cream at the weirdest gas station, or stopping to see something beautiful that you just didn't expect. That's how God works. He turns the journey itself into a blessing to be thankful for. Adventures remind us that God is creative, he's faithful, and he loves fun. He made a world full of places to explore, and he promises to go with us wherever we travel. So next time you pack up the car to head somewhere new, God's already there and he's waiting to show you something new. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
