Have you ever flopped down in the middle of summer and groaned that there's nothing to do and everything is boring? See, summer has a funny thing about it. The first week feels like freedom, and then somewhere in the middle, you hit the slump, where every day feels the same and you're just bored. So today, let's talk about what to do with that. Let's jump in with the one thing I want you to remember for the ride. Boredom can be a treasure hunt for the good God hides in plain sight. Listen to this from Proverbs 25:2. It says, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to investigate a matter." So the word conceal means to hide. God loves to tuck good things just out of sight, not to keep them from you, but because He loves the joy of you finding them, and then He calls you to go investigate, to go hunting for them. Think about that. Boredom feels like the worst, like there's nothing there. But what if the nothing is actually an invitation? What if God has tucked something good right nearby, and being bored is just the moment before you go and find it? See, if Jesus were just lounging with you at home, I think He'd grin and say, "I know it feels like there's nothing here, but I've hidden something good close by. I always do. Get up. Let's go on a treasure hunt and find it." Okay, so imagine it's one of those flat summer afternoons where you've said you're bored about 9,000 times. But instead of staying stuck on the couch, you decide to go hunting. You head out back, and you start really looking, and you find it. A roly-poly under a rock, a perfect climbing branch, a whole world in the dirt that you walked past a hundred times before. See, the boredom didn't change. You changed. You went looking, and the good was there the whole time. So this week, here's just a couple things you could try. First, next time you're bored, don't wait for fun to come to you. Go on a treasure hunt and find the good God tucked somewhere nearby. Second, when the boredom feeling hits, just say this one sentence, "God, show me something good right here." And third, and this is a good one, ask yourself, "Am I waiting to be entertained, or am I willing to go look for something good God might have for me?"
