Hey, Carpool Crew! It's day twenty-four of Proverbs for Your School Life. And today we're talking about that moment at recess when the group is about to do the thing... and every head turns to see if you're in. I'm Pastor Justin, and before we jump in, let me give a big shout-out to Theon, Chessa, Akemi, and Emeryn out in Michigan. Four names on one shout-out, that might be a carpool record. And this episode is all about crowd pressure. We've all felt every head turn. Let's jump in with the one thing I want you to remember for the ride: the crowd doesn't get a vote. In Proverbs 29:25 it says, "The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is protected." A snare is a trap, the kind that grabs an animal by the foot. Solomon says worrying about what the crowd thinks works exactly like that. Caring what everybody thinks feels like belonging. It's actually a leash. Jesus once walked straight into a man's house that the whole town had decided to hate, and the crowd grumbled about it the entire way. He did the right thing with everybody watching and complaining. If Jesus were standing at the edge of that recess field, He would say, "Count the crowd. Five kids. Now remember who you are. I didn't build you to be steered by five kids and a dare. Say your no. The kids worth keeping will still be there at the bell." A kid grabs the new kid's hat and the plan comes together fast: over the fence it goes, and everybody's supposed to think it's hilarious. The hat gets passed down the line toward you, and every head turns. Your hands want to take it, just to stay inside the circle. Instead you catch it and hand it back to the new kid. "I'm good. I'm not doing that." Two sentences. For a second it's quiet and weird and your face is hot. Then somebody says "whatever" and the game moves on. One kid stays annoyed at you until Thursday. And the new kid is still wearing his hat. The circle survived your no. It almost always does. So today, here's the one thing you could try. Say no to one thing you'd only be doing because the crowd is doing it. Borrow it word for word: "I'm good. I'm not doing that." Hey, let's go back to that one thing I wanted you to remember for the ride. The crowd doesn't get a vote. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. And parents, you probably know another parent who could use this today. Go ahead and share this episode with them. Sometimes the right conversation starts with one simple send.
