What Does God Look Like? Seeing the Father in Jesus

Hey there, everyone. Welcome to a new week of Carpooling with Jesus. Whether you're on the way to school, sitting around the breakfast table, or learning at home, we're so glad you've joined us today. I'm Pastor Justin. This week, we're going to dig into some questions that I always had when I was a kid. Today, we're going to talk about what does God look like? It's a big question, right? But don't worry, we're going to figure it out together. So get ready to learn a little bit more about our amazing God today. Our verse is from the book of John chapter 14, verse nine. Jesus said, anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. That's right. Jesus was saying, if you want to know what God looks like, look at him. But what does that mean exactly? Well, Jesus was talking to his disciples, the people who followed him and learned from him. They had been with Jesus for a while, but they still had some big questions. One of his disciples, Philip, asked, show us the Father, God, and that will be enough for us. Now, that's a fair question. They had seen Jesus do all sorts of amazing things, healing people, making sick people well, and even walking on water, but they still weren't sure what God was really like. So Jesus answered Philip with the words we just read, anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. Jesus was saying that when you look at him, you're seeing God. Jesus shows us exactly what God looks like: his love, his kindness, his power, and his care for others. You see, God is spirit, meaning he doesn't have a body like you and me. So we can't see God with our eyes the way we see our friends and family. But Jesus, who is God's Son, came to earth with a body just like us. So when we look at Jesus, we see what God's heart and love are all about. That's pretty cool, right? If Jesus were sitting with us today, I bet he would smile and remind us, when you see me, you see the Father. When you see me show kindness, that's what God is like. When you see me love people, that's how God loves you. Let me tell you a quick story that comes to mind. When I was in school, I had a friend named Brian. He was super shy and didn't talk to many people. One day at lunch, I saw him sitting by himself at a table. So I decided to sit down with him. We talked, we laughed, we shared our snacks. After that day, Brian started to open up more and make new friends. He wasn't shy anymore because he felt seen and loved. Now, why do I tell that story? Well, when I showed kindness to Brian, I was showing him a little bit of God's love. God is kind, loving, and wants us to help others feel the same way. Jesus showed us exactly how to love others, just like he loved us. And when we do that, it's like showing people what God is like.
