Hey, Carpool Crew! It's day seventeen of Proverbs for Your School Life. And today we're talking about that moment when your friend does something embarrassing... and the story is so good, and it's sitting right there in your pocket at lunch, begging to be told. I'm Pastor Justin, and before we jump in, let me give a big shout-out to Giselle out in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Giselle, glad you're in the carpool. And this episode is all about what you do with a friend's worst moment. We've all held that story. Let's jump in with the one thing I want you to remember for the ride: cover it, don't spread it. Proverbs 17:9 reminds us, "Whoever conceals an offense promotes love, but whoever gossips about it separates friends." Conceal doesn't mean hiding bad secrets. It means you don't hand your friend's embarrassing moment around the lunch table like a bag of chips. One quick and important thing. If somebody is being hurt, or something feels unsafe, that is not gossip. That is getting help, and you tell a grown-up every time. This verse is about the embarrassing stuff, not the dangerous stuff. A story that costs your friend something is never free for you either. Jesus taught that when somebody wrongs you, you go talk to them privately, just the two of you. He never once handed a person's worst moment to a crowd. If Jesus were sitting at that lunch table, He would say, "I know the story is funny. But look at him. He's still embarrassed. Be the friend who buries it. That's the friend you'd want holding your worst moment." Tuesday morning, your friend raises his hand and calls the teacher Mom. The whole class explodes. By lunch, kids who weren't even in the room are asking about it, and the circle turns to you, because you sat right next to him. You've got the story, the voice, the whole bit loaded. Instead, you shrug and say, "That's not my story to tell," and ask who's watching the game tonight. Somebody might call you boring. The circle moves on anyway. And later your friend catches your eye across the cafeteria. He knows. You know. That's a friendship getting stronger, right there over a tray of nuggets. So today, here's the one thing you could try. When a story about a friend reaches you, be where it stops. Change the subject. And if the circle pushes you for it, borrow the line: "That's not my story to tell." Hey, let's go back to that one thing I wanted you to remember for the ride. Cover it, don't spread it. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. And parents, you probably know another parent who could use this today. Go ahead and share this episode with them. Sometimes the right conversation starts with one simple send. Hey, before you go, let's answer this question together. Has anyone ever covered for you when you were embarrassed, and how did that feel? I'll see you tomorrow on Carpooling with Jesus.
