Hey, Carpool Crew! Happy Friday, day eighteen of Proverbs for Your School Life. And today we're talking about that gray, drizzly kind of day when the whole class has slumped shoulders... and somehow one kid flips the switch for everybody. I'm Pastor Justin, and before we jump in, let me give a big shout-out to Wyatt and Norah out in Jackson, Tennessee. So glad you made it to Friday with us. And this episode is all about joy that spreads. We've all caught it from somebody. Let's jump in with the one thing I want you to remember for the ride: joy is medicine you can share. Listen to this from Proverbs 17:22. "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." Medicine. Solomon says joy actually does something. It gets into a room and goes to work, like the good kind of contagious. Joy isn't pretending the day is great. It's deciding the day isn't finished. On His last night with His friends, Jesus told them He wanted His own joy to be in them, and He wanted that joy to be full. Joy was His idea first. If Jesus were in that classroom on the rainy day, He would say, "Look around. Everybody is waiting for somebody to go first. Go first. One laugh from you and half this room comes back to life." Indoor recess. Rain on the windows, board games with missing pieces, everybody flopped over the desks like wet towels. One kid grabs a paper football, builds a goalpost with his fingers, and says, "Tournament. Who's in?" Ten minutes later there's a bracket on the whiteboard and the quietest kid in class is doing a touchdown dance. Two kids never move off their desks, and that's fine too. Same rain. Same room. One kid brought the medicine. Hey, this weekend, here's the one thing you could try. Make one person laugh or smile on purpose. Not by accident. Hunt for it. A joke, a paper football, a goofy face at your little sister across the dinner table. You're not goofing off. You're a kid walking around with medicine in your backpack. Hey, let's go back to that one thing I wanted you to remember for the ride. Joy is medicine you can share. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. And parents, real quick. Tomorrow on Carpooling with Jesus+, we're making self-control your kid's superpower with Proverbs 25:28 and a city-wall picture they won't forget. And Sunday, we're taking on the urge to get even and learning to let God handle the payback. For less than one fast-food meal a month, your kids don't miss either one. Or in Apple Podcasts, the whole year is $34.99. That's about three months free, and it's one less thing sitting on your monthly list.")* Hey, before you go, let's answer this question together. Who in your family needed some joy medicine this week, and what's your plan to deliver it? I'll see you tomorrow or next Monday on Carpooling with Jesus.
