Hey, Carpool Crew! Happy Sunday! It’s day twenty-seven of Proverbs for Your School Life. Today we’re talking about two of the most comfortable words in the whole house: **“In a minute.”** I’m Pastor Justin, and first, a big shout-out to Sarah and Samuel, listening all the way from Aotearoa New Zealand! Here’s the one thing I want you to remember: **Do the good now, not later.** Proverbs 3:27 says, “When it is in your power, don’t withhold good from the one to whom it belongs.” In other words, if you can help, don’t keep putting it off. Solomon isn’t talking about something you can’t do. He’s talking about the good that’s sitting right in front of you while you’re saying... “In a minute.” Because here’s the problem: **Later is where good deeds go to disappear.** Jesus told a story about a man who had been hurt and left on the side of the road. Two people saw him and kept going. Then a Samaritan came along. He saw the man. He stopped. He helped. He didn’t say, “I’ll come back later.” **He did the good when the good needed to be done.** Imagine it’s Sunday afternoon. You’re on the couch watching a show when you hear... rrrrrrrrr... The garage door. Then you hear grocery bags. Your mom is coming through the door carrying approximately 47 bags at once because apparently taking two trips is illegal. You could stay right where you are. “I’ll help in a minute.” Or you could get up before anybody asks. **“I’ve got it, Mom.”** Grab the milk. Grab the cans. Carry the bags inside. Four minutes later, you’re done. And there’s something different about helping before you’re asked. **You didn’t just do a chore. You noticed somebody who needed help and moved.** That’s the kind of person Proverbs is teaching us to become. So here’s your one thing for today: **Beat the ask.** When you see something good you can do, don’t wait for somebody to tell you. The grocery bags. The backpack somebody dropped. Your little sister struggling with her shoes. See it and move. And if you need the words: **“I’ve got it.”** Let’s go back to the one thing I want you to remember: **Do the good now, not later.** Remember, no matter where you are or how you’re listening, God loves you.
