Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness: Craving God's Ways

In today’s episode of Carpooling with Jesus, Pastor Justin talks about the importance of being hungry and thirsty for righteousness, based on Matthew 5:6 from the Beatitudes.

For Parents

Today's Beatitude is Matthew 5:6, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Pastor Justin uses the picture every kid knows, being really hungry or thirsty, to explain wanting to do right as strongly as we want a snack. Righteousness is defined simply as living the way God wants: being kind, loving others, telling the truth. The episode also gives kids permission to mess up and come back to God for help. Ask your child about a hard right choice they have faced.

The One Thing for the Ride

Questions Kids Ask

What does hunger and thirst for righteousness mean?

Righteousness means living the way God wants, being kind, telling the truth, and loving others (Matthew 5:6). Jesus says we should want to do what is right the same way we crave a snack when we are super hungry or a cold drink on a hot day. When we crave God's ways like that, He promises to fill us up with everything we need.
