Jonah's Big Storm, the Bigger Fish, and Second Chances

What happens when Jonah finally owns up to his mistake?

For Parents

The middle of the Jonah week is the big one: the sailors cast lots, Jonah owns up, asks to be thrown overboard, and a great fish swallows him. Justin leans into two ideas kids can carry, taking responsibility even when consequences are hard, and giving people second chances the way God gives them to us. It's the dramatic turn of the story told with warmth, ending on the surprise of the fish and the promise that God didn't give up on Jonah.

The One Thing for the Ride

Even when we mess up, God doesn't give up on us, and giving others a second chance shows them the same love God gives us.

Questions Kids Ask

Why was Jonah thrown overboard and swallowed by a big fish?

When the storm raged, the sailors cast lots to find who was to blame, and it pointed to Jonah, who confessed he was running from God and told them to throw him into the sea (Jonah 1:7-17). The moment they did, the storm stopped, and God sent a great fish to swallow Jonah and save him. Even when we mess up, God does not give up on us, and giving others a second chance shows them the same love God gives us.
