Joy That Doesn't Melt Like Ice Cream

Whether you’re picking out shoes, riding shotgun with your water bottle, or packing for a field trip—I’m Pastor Justin, and I’m so glad you’re here.

For Parents

This episode wraps the vine and branches series with John 15:11 and a melting ice cream cone. Pastor Justin draws the difference between happiness that drips away and the lasting joy Jesus gives, joy that doesn't depend on perfect days. He gives kids simple ways to grow it: start the morning with Jesus, talk to him when you feel blah, and be thankful on good days and hard ones. A warm, hopeful close to the week.

The One Thing for the Ride

Jesus gives a deep joy that sticks around even on hard days, unlike happiness that melts away.

Questions Kids Ask

What is the difference between happiness and the joy Jesus gives?

Happiness is a lot like ice cream on a hot day, wonderful for a moment but quick to melt away when things change. Jesus offers something deeper when he says he wants his joy in you so that your joy may be complete (John 15:11), a joy that sticks around even on hard days because it is based on who you are connected to, not what is happening around you. Stay close to him, thank him on the good days and the hard days, and let that joy grow strong in your heart.
