Questions Kids Ask

Why was the older brother angry in the prodigal son story?

The older brother had stayed home working faithfully for years, so when his runaway brother came back and got a party instead of punishment, it felt unfair and he refused to go inside. His father came out to him and said, "Son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours" (Luke 15:31). He believed obedience earned love, but the love was already his, and Jesus left the ending open so every listener has to decide whether to come in to the celebration.
