Scared of the Doctor or Dentist? What Jesus Would Say

Hey, Carpool Crew. Maybe you've got a checkup coming up soon or maybe just hearing the word 'dentist' makes your stomach do flip flops. Well, I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so glad you're here. This whole month we're talking about: what would Jesus say to the things that make us scared? Today we're talking about a fear that's very real for a lot of kids, and adults too. The doctor and dentist visits. Whether it's a shot, a checkup, or a cleaning, even if you know it's not a big deal, it can still feel scary. Now, I just went to the dentist last week. Man, I know what it feels like. You're laying back in the chair, the light is shining in your face. I just want you to know you are not alone. This is what it says in Luke chapter 8, verse 48: 'Daughter,' he said to her, 'your faith has saved you. Go in peace.' So what does that verse have to do with being scared of dentist or doctor visits? Well, Jesus said these words to a woman who'd been sick for 12 years. She had been to many doctors, and nothing helped. But when she saw Jesus, she believed just by touching his robe, he could heal her. And guess what? He did. But here's what's beautiful. He didn't just heal her body, he gave her peace. He called her daughter. He looked her in the eye. He cared about her body and her heart. And he cares about yours too. If Jesus walked into the doctor's office or dentist's chair with you today, he wouldn't laugh at your fear or tell you to just be tough. He would smile and say, 'You're brave and I'm with you. You don't have to be afraid.' Because bravery isn't about not feeling scared. It's about trusting Jesus when you are. Just like the woman who went to Jesus knowing he could help her, you can go to Jesus too in those times knowing he can help you too. Let's say you're sitting in the exam room. The nurse walks in with a tray. Mom and dad are sitting there and you know a shot is coming. Your hands are a little sweaty. And your heart is pounding. You breathe deep and whisper, 'Jesus, help me be brave.' And guess what? He hears you. He is with you. And yes, he's proud of you for being brave. Even when you're nervous, even when you squeeze someone's hand really tight, even if you tear up a little bit. Jesus doesn't walk away when things get uncomfortable. He walks with you through it. So how can you live this out today, especially if an appointment is coming up? First, ask Jesus to go with you in the exam room before you go in. Maybe pray in the car with mom or dad before you even walk into the building. Second, take deep breaths and repeat this verse to yourself: 'Go in peace. Go in peace.' Lastly, bring something special with you. Maybe it's a small cross. Your favorite Bible, a special stuffed animal. Just something that you can have with you. Because sometimes those little reminders of God's presence make a big difference. And if you have a sibling or a friend who's nervous about their appointment, you can encourage them too. Remind them that Jesus gives us peace even in the waiting room. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
