Scared to Pray Out Loud? What Jesus Would Say

Maybe you freeze when someone asks, “Who wants to pray?” Or you worry you’ll say the wrong thing, forget your words, or sound weird.

For Parents

Praying out loud in front of others, even family, can feel intimidating for a lot of kids and plenty of adults. This episode uses Romans 8:26 to remind your child that prayer is not a performance and the Holy Spirit helps even our mumbled, nervous prayers. It encourages starting small. Tonight, let your child pray one short sentence at the table and celebrate it.

The One Thing for the Ride

Questions Kids Ask

What if I am too scared to pray out loud?

Praying out loud is not a performance, so you do not need perfect or fancy words. The Bible says the Spirit himself helps us and prays for us even when we do not know what to say (Romans 8:26), so God takes our nervous, mumbled prayers and hears the heart behind them. Jesus is listening to your honest heart, not your grammar, so you can just talk to him like a friend.
