Serving at Home: When Chores Become Worship

Alright, here's your One Thing for the ride: helping at home honors God. Our verse today comes from Colossians 3:23. It says: 'Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people.' Now let's be honest. Helping at home doesn't always feel exciting. Cleaning your room, doing dishes, helping your sibling, those aren't usually your favorite parts of the day. But this verse flips the way we think about it. It says you're not just helping your parents. You're serving God. If Jesus were sitting next to you right now, I think he'd say: 'My friend, when you help at home with a good attitude, you're showing love, not just to your family, but to me.' Think about this. Two kids are asked to clean up. One says, 'Okay!' and gets to work. The other says, 'Do I have to?' and drags their feet the whole time. Both cleaned. But only one did it from the heart. God sees the difference. Not just what you do, but HOW you do it. Here's a quick story. A girl named Emma was asked to help her little brother clean up his toys. She didn't want to. She had her own stuff to do. But she remembered this verse. So instead of complaining, she helped him, and even made a game out of it. Afterward, her mom said, 'Thank you. That meant a lot.' But more importantly, it honored God. So here's what this looks like today: first, do chores gladly. Don't wait to be asked over and over. Second, help your siblings. Even when it's not your mess. Third, work hard. Give your best effort, not your minimum. Let's go back to your One Thing: helping at home honors God. No matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
