Thankful for Jesus' Example: How to Live Like Him

Hey, carpool crew. Did you know that we can be thankful for Jesus's example and live like him every day? Yeah, that's the goal and that's what we're talking about today. I'm Pastor Justin and I'm really glad you're here. Let me ask you something. Have you ever had someone you really looked up to? Maybe it's a teacher who always believed in you or a coach who helps you get better at what you love, or maybe it's your mom or dad who always seems to know exactly what to say. We all have people we try to be like. But did you know Jesus actually invites us to follow his example. He didn't just tell people how to live, he showed them. Here's what it says in John chapter 13, verse 15. For I have given you an example that you also should do, just as I have done for you. This verse comes from one of the most powerful moments in Jesus' life. Right before he went to the cross, Jesus and his disciples were sitting together for a meal, and instead of acting like the most important person in the room, he did something totally unexpected. He got down on the floor and washed their feet. Now, back then, that was a servant's job, but Jesus wanted to teach something huge. The real greatness comes from serving others, not being served. When he finished, he said, I've given you an example. Now go and do the same. That means Jesus didn't just live for himself. He lived to show us how to love others. And how to live. That is something to be thankful for. If Jesus were sitting in the car with you this morning or at the table, I think he'd say, you don't have to guess how to live. Just follow my lead. Be kind when others aren't. Forgive, even when it's hard, and serve even when no one else notices, and show thankfulness along the way. We can be thankful that Jesus gave us an example to live by. Let's say you're at school and a friend drops their books in the hallway. Most people would just walk by, but you stop and help. Or maybe your brother or sister takes the last cookie and instead of getting mad, you say, it's okay. You can have it. Those moments might seem like no big deal, but they're exactly the kind of things Jesus did. He paid attention. He served others, and he showed love when people didn't deserve it. That's the example we can be thankful for. He didn't just tell us to love others. He showed us how to love others. So how can you live this out today? Here's just a couple ways that we can follow Jesus's example. First, serve someone quietly. Do something kind for someone without expecting attention or a thank you in return. That's the kind of service Jesus modeled for us. Second, forgive fast. When someone hurts your feelings, forgive them like Jesus forgave you. Don't let a grudge steal your peace and get in the middle of a friendship. Lastly, lead with love. Be the person who makes things better, not harder. Smile first. Encourage first, love first. Jesus didn't just talk about love. He lived it. Every word, every action, every moment showed us how to treat others with kindness and humility, and that's something to be thankful for every single day.
