Hey, carpool crew, I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so glad you're here today. Let's talk about something that's really easy to forget. The small things, the little things. Sometimes we wait for big, amazing moments, birthdays, vacations, the championship game, to feel thankful. But you know what? Some of the most important things in our lives that we can be thankful for are happening in ordinary, everyday moments, like the smell of pancakes in the morning, a hug from mom or dad, laughing so hard with your friends that your stomach hurts, or putting on your favorite cozy sweatshirt when it's cold outside. Those might seem small, but they're all gifts from God. Zechariah chapter four, verse 10 says this, do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. This verse comes from a moment when God's people were rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. It was slow. It didn't look impressive at first at all. Some people thought, this is too small to matter, but God said, don't look down on small beginnings. Why? Because every big thing he does starts small. Think about it. Jesus was born as a baby in a small town. Small baby in a small town, pretty great. He used a few fish and a couple loaves of bread in a small kid's lunch to feed thousands of people. That was one of Jesus's miracles. He chose ordinary people to share the good news and spread the good news of Jesus all over the world. God loves starting small, and he rejoices when we notice his work in the little things. If Jesus were sitting in the car with you or at the table this morning, I think he'd smile and say, don't miss the good things I'm doing just because they seem small. I'm in the laughter, the kindness, the moments that seem ordinary. All the small things matter to me. Let's think about this. Have you ever helped someone with something really small? Maybe you just held the door open for them, shared a snack, or said thank you about something that didn't seem that big of a deal. It didn't take much effort, did it? No, of course not. But sometimes that little action can change someone's whole day. A thank you, a compliment, a small action. Being thankful works the same way. When we notice small blessings and thank God for them, it changes us. It helps us see that he is working everywhere, that at all times, even in the tiniest details, God loves us. That's something to be thankful for. So here's an idea of how you can live that out today. First, look around as you start your day, name just three things you are thankful for. You could actually do this as part of your regular routine in the car on the way to school, and it could be just things like sunshine, breakfast this morning, good music in the car. I'm thankful for my awesome shoes. I'm thankful for my cool backpack. Next, you can say thank you out loud. Tell God thank you for something, something ordinary, because that's where he often hides his best gifts. The small things. You don't need something huge to be thankful for. Just open your eyes. See all the small things that God has already given you, all the small things around you. Because in every meal, in every laugh, in every lunchroom conversation, at every little movie night at home with your family, God is whispering, see, I'm right here. So today, slow down, look around and say thank you, God, for all the small things. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. Parents, if you love today's episode, consider sharing it with some people at your church or in a Facebook group as we're starting a brand new week talking about thankfulness on carpooling with Jesus. Before you go, answer this question together. What's one small thing you are thankful for today that you might not have noticed before? I'll see you tomorrow on carpooling with Jesus.
