The Day God Sent Fire from Heaven (Elijah)

Hey, carpool nation. So glad you're tuning in. I am Pastor Justin. Today we're talking about a story full of fire, like actual fire from heaven. We're talking about a moment where God showed up big time and proved He's the real deal and worth following. Here's your one thing for the ride. I want you to remember, God is the real deal. He can do the impossible. Our verse today is from First Kings chapter 18, verse 24. Then you call on the name of your God, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The God who answers by fire, he is God. And all the people answered. Whoa. Elijah's in the middle of a spiritual showdown. People have started worshiping a fake, false God named Baal, and Elijah had had enough. Now, remember, there is Elijah and Elisha, both amazing prophets who followed God with their whole hearts. Elijah came first. That's who we're learning about today. He was bold and dramatic. Then came Elisha. His miracles were more gentle, like helping a widow and healing the sick. Elijah showed God's power and Elisha showed God's kindness. So back to First Kings chapter 18, which by the way is in the Old Testament. Elijah was ready for the one true God to show His power. He said, let's settle this. Let's see whose God is real. They both prepared sacrifices, but only one God answered with fire: our God, our heavenly Father, the one who listens to our prayers and loves us so much. The prophets of Baal shouted all day and nothing happened. They were as loud as they could be, but still nothing happened. They were doing everything they could. But still nothing happened. But when Elijah prayed. Yep. You heard that right? Elijah bowed his head and prayed. Then boom, fire from heaven. No one could deny it. God showed up. Now, put yourself in this moment. You're watching this huge challenge take place. The fake prophets are yelling and dancing and nothing is happening. Then Elijah steps forward, quietly prays, and the sky lights up with fire. Could you imagine seeing that? God showed the people that day, and shows us today, that He's powerful, real, and always in control. One time my friend Brianna had a big role in a school play. Some kids saw her praying before it started and made fun of her, but Brianna stood tall and gave it her all. When the curtains opened, she knew God was with her, and she spoke with so much confidence that even the kids who laughed started cheering for her. Like Elijah, Brianna stood strong in what she believed, and when we trust in God, He shows up in small ways, big ways, and even surprising ways. God is the one true God, the only one who can do what seems impossible. He's not just a storybook hero or a character from a long, long time ago. He's real, powerful, and He's working today for you and for me. Just like He sent fire from the sky for Elijah, He can show up in amazing ways in your life too. Maybe not with fire, but with courage when you're scared, help when you're stuck, and love when you feel alone. God wants you to know Him, trust Him, and see His power at work.
