The Freedom Jesus Paid For

Hey, Carpool Crew! Happy Fourth of July! Have you ever watched fireworks light up the whole sky, and then ten minutes later it's all over and the sky is just dark again? I'm Pastor Justin. So glad you're with us today. It's the Fourth of July, the day our country celebrates being free. All week in Freedom Week we've been talking about a different kind of free, the kind Jesus gives. Here's the one thing for the ride: country freedom lets you do things, but Jesus sets you free on the inside, and nobody can ever take that back. Here's John 8:36. Jesus says, "So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free." When Jesus calls Himself the Son, He means the Son of God. He's promising a free that's the real deal, not the kind that wears off when the fireworks stop. When Jesus said this, He was talking to people who thought they were already free because of the family they were born into. But He meant something deeper. Every person is stuck to their own wrong stuff, like being tied to something heavy you can't even see, until Jesus comes and cuts the rope. The free Jesus gives isn't a day off or a big show in the sky. It's getting unstuck from the guilt and the junk that weighs you down. And it doesn't run out the next morning. If Jesus were standing next to you in the backyard tonight while you wait for the fireworks, He would grin and say, "The freedom I gave you doesn't end when the show is over. You wake up tomorrow still free. That one is forever." Your family is at a cookout. Burgers on the grill, cousins running around, the good stuff. But earlier this week you did something wrong and never told anybody, and all afternoon there's this knot in your stomach. You can't really enjoy the games. Then you finally tell a grown-up the truth and tell God you're sorry, and suddenly you can breathe. You run off and play like a different kid. That breath right there is a tiny taste of the free Jesus paid for. This week, try three things. First, tonight while you watch the fireworks, say one sentence. "Jesus, thank You that the freedom You gave me never runs out." Second, if there's something you've been hiding that's giving you that knot, tell a grown-up you trust and tell God, and let it go. Third, a heart one. Ask yourself, am I living like a free kid, or am I still dragging around something Jesus already set me loose from? So remember. Country freedom lets you do things, but Jesus sets you free on the inside, and nobody can ever take that back. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you.
