Why We Even Read the Bible

Hey, Carpool Crew! I hope you're having a slow, good Sunday. Quick question before we roll. Have you ever had a grown-up hand you a book, and your shoulders kind of dropped because it looked really long and kind of boring? I'm Pastor Justin, and before we jump in, so glad you're with us today. A lot of kids feel that way about the Bible. It's big, it's old, and some words are hard. So why do we even read it? Here's the one thing I want you to remember for the ride: the Bible is God's own words to help you, every single page. Listen to this from 2 Timothy 3:16. Paul writes, "All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness." Inspired by God means God breathed it out. These are His actual words. And profitable means it really helps you, it's not a waste of your time. So the Bible isn't a boring rulebook somebody made up long ago. It's the one book in the whole world where God Himself is doing the talking. The stories, the promises, the hard parts, all of it is God showing you who He is and how to live. If Jesus were sitting next to you on the couch right now, He would smile and say, "When you open that book, you're not doing a chore. You're hearing from Me. I left you My words on purpose, so you'd never have to wonder what I'm like." Imagine your grandpa, somebody who loves you more than almost anyone, wrote you a long letter with everything he's ever learned. He told you who you are to him, how to handle the scary stuff, and how much he loves you. You wouldn't toss that letter in a drawer. You'd read it over and over. The Bible is like that, except it's from God, and it's about you too. This week, here are a few things to try. First, open the Bible to one verse today and read it out loud. Ask a grown-up to help you find one. Second, ask one question. "God, what are You showing me here?" Third, a heart one. Instead of seeing the Bible as one more thing you have to do, read it like a letter from Someone who loves you, because that's exactly what it is. Hey, let's go back to that one thing I wanted you to remember for the ride. The Bible is God's own words to help you, every single page. Remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. And parents, here's one thing for today. Think of someone at your church who pours into your kids, maybe your child's pastor or their Sunday school teacher. Would you share this episode with them?
