The Question You Are Carrying

For Parents
Your kid may have a question about God they keep trading for a smaller, safer one, like what time you leave tomorrow. This episode pictures Psalm 119:105 as a little clay lamp that lights one step at a time, and shows Jesus answering Nicodemus and his pile of questions at night. It gives your kid a line to say to you: "Hey, can I ask you something I've been wondering about?" At dinner tonight, ask the family question yourself and just listen.
The One Thing for the Ride
“God's words light the next step.”

Key Takeaways
- A lamp in Bible times was a small clay dish with oil and one little flame that lit the ground right around your feet.
- You don't need the whole answer, just the next step. Take the step, and there's light for the one after that.
- Nicodemus came to Jesus at night with a pile of questions, and Jesus sat there and answered them.
Try This Week
- Tonight, walk up to a grown-up in your house and say, word for word: "Hey, can I ask you something I've been wondering about?" Then ask the real one.
- Ask it because you actually want to know, not to stump anybody.
- Say it out loud in your room: "God, this is my question. I'm handing it to You."

Questions Kids Ask
How do I get my child to ask me their real questions about God?
Give them a sentence to start with. In this episode kids get one to borrow, "Hey, can I ask you something I've been wondering about?" and a second move: saying "God, I have a question" out loud in prayer. Then listen to the question that comes out, the way Jesus sat with Nicodemus at night and answered his questions one by one.
