Why Your Birthday Is More Than Just Cake

And today on Carpooling with Jesus, we’re talking about why birthdays are more than just cake and balloons—they’re a celebration of God’s amazing design in creating YOU!

For Parents

It's Pastor Justin's birthday, and he uses the day to make a bigger point with kids. Psalm 139 says God knit each of us together on purpose, so a birthday is really a celebration of being wonderfully made. He shares a story about thanking God instead of just wishing for presents. The episode lands on gratitude and identity. On the drive, ask your child to name one thing they're thankful for about how God made them.

The One Thing for the Ride

Your birthday celebrates more than cake and candles. It celebrates that God made you on purpose, wonderfully, with a plan.

Questions Kids Ask

What does the Bible say about birthdays and why we are special?

The psalm writer says God created your inward parts and knit you together in your mother's womb, so you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14). God thought about every detail of who you would be, your eyes, your laugh, your talents, on purpose and with love. Your birthday celebrates more than cake and candles, it celebrates that God made you wonderfully and has a plan for you.
