Thankful for Second Chances

Hey, carpool crew. Every morning is a gift from God, a chance to start fresh and try again. I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so glad you're here today. Let me ask you something. Have you ever had a day where nothing seemed to go right? Maybe you said something you wish you hadn't. Maybe you forgot your homework or got frustrated with a sibling, or didn't listen to your parents when they asked you to do something. It's easy to feel discouraged when we mess up, but the good news is this. God doesn't give up on us. Our family doesn't give up on us. Our friends don't give up on us. Every single day, God, our family, our friends give us another chance to start again. Here's what it says in Lamentations chapter three, verses 22 to 23. Because of the Lord's faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Book of Lamentations was written during one of the hardest times in Israel's history, after the city of Jerusalem was destroyed. People were sad, scared and ashamed of how they had turned away from God. But even in that dark moment, the writer remembered something powerful. God's love never runs out. Even when people failed, God stayed faithful, and his mercy, the way he forgives and helps us start over, was still brand new every morning. That means no matter what happened yesterday, today is a brand new day to walk with him, talk with him, and ask forgiveness because he'll give it. That is something to be thankful for. If Jesus were sitting in the car with you this morning or sitting at the table, I think he'd smile and say, hey, I know yesterday didn't go how you wanted, but guess what? Today's a new day. You get to start over again. My forgiveness, my mercy didn't run out overnight. Be thankful that God, the father, and me, Jesus, forgive every day. Let's say you wake up late, spill your breakfast, snap at your brother or sister before you get in the car. You already feel like the day is ruined, but then you remember, God's mercy is new this morning. That means you don't have to stay stuck in a bad attitude or carry guilt all day long. You can pause, pray, say, God, thank you for a new start today. Help me do better. You can apologize to parents if you were rude. Apologize to a sibling. Say, I am sorry. I am thankful that God forgives and I want you to forgive me too. That's what grace looks like in real life. It's not pretending mistakes don't happen. It's not glazing over them like a donut, acting like it's no big deal. It's taking it seriously, trusting God that he will forgive you, and trusting your friends, family, teachers, coaches that they will forgive you too. Every morning is a little reminder that God's not done with us yet. He still believes in us. He still loves us. He's still ready to help us grow even when we make mistakes. So as you start your day, don't focus on yesterday's mistakes. Focus on today's mercy, because with God, every sunrise means a brand new start to the day.
