Hey friends. Welcome back to Carpooling with Jesus. I'm Pastor Justin, and I'm so excited to be here with you today. We've got something super important and golden to talk about. Yep, it's the golden rule. It's one of the most powerful lessons Jesus ever taught us. And it's been around for thousands of years. Are you ready to learn all about it? Let's go. What is the golden rule, you might ask? Well, in Matthew chapter seven, verse 12, Jesus says, therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the law and the prophets. This means we should treat others the way we want to be treated. It's like a guide for being kind and fair to everyone around us. But have you ever wondered, why is it called the golden rule? The term golden rule isn't actually in the Bible. People started calling it this because it's so valuable, like gold. Treating others well is more important than money or treasure because it makes the world a better place. The name golden rule became popular around the 17th century. That's a long time ago. But the idea has been part of Jesus's teaching for over 2000 years. What makes it so golden? It's golden because it's simple, it works everywhere, and it changes lives. Whether you're at school, at home, with friends, at practice, or just with your siblings, the golden rule helps you spread kindness wherever you go. Let's break it down with an example. Imagine it's your birthday. Happy birthday. And you're having a big party. There are games, snacks, and a huge cake. You want everyone to have the best time ever. So you share your toys, invite everyone to play, and treat everyone with kindness. Why? Because you'd want them to do the same for you at their party. That's the golden rule in action. How can we practice the golden rule every day? Here are some ways. Share and play fair. When you're playing a game, make sure everyone gets a turn and no one feels left out. Share your toys and your snacks, like you'd want someone to share with you. Be polite. Saying please and thank you might seem small, but it makes a big difference. These words show people that you appreciate them and care about their feelings. You can help out. If you see someone struggling, maybe they dropped their books or they can't reach something, offer to help. Think about how much you'd appreciate it if someone helped you in that situation. Lastly, listen and understand. When someone talks to you, really listen to them. Don't interrupt. Don't wait for your turn to talk. Don't look away or look at your phone. Think about how nice it feels when someone listens to you. Let's imagine a story for a second. You have a friend named Alex and he is feeling sad because he lost his favorite toy. You see him sitting alone looking upset. What can you do? You could say, hey, let's look for the toy together. Or, want to play a game to cheer you up? By helping Alex, you're treating him the way you'd want to be treated if you lost something special. You might think, why does this matter? When we follow the golden rule, we help make the world kinder, happier, and more like Jesus. Think about that. If everyone treated others the way they wanted to be treated, there would be more smiles, fewer arguments, and a lot more joy in the world. You can start that change wherever you are. And remember, no matter where you are or how you're listening, God loves you. Don't forget to tune in tomorrow for another episode of Carpooling with Jesus. And parents, if you're enjoying this podcast, share it with your parent friends so they can make their car rides faith-filled too. Here's today's question. Try and answer it before you get out of the car. What's one way you can follow the golden rule at school or at home this week? See you tomorrow, friends.
